With three major airports in close proximity and a well-developed transportation network for both passengers and products, the Greater Baltimore region is well positioned to be a hub of international business.

  • Baltimore-Towson is the 10th largest exporting metropolitan area based on percent of state export values, with 67.8% of Maryland’s total exports generated from the region in 2007.

In addition to exporting goods, the region is well-connected in foreign markets.  The Maryland Center China was established in 1996, and allows Maryland companies to establish their corporate presence in China by sharing resources with the State of Maryland China Office and other Maryland organizations interested in China.

The Maryland/Israel Development Center is a non-profit organization promoting trade, joint ventures, and investment between Maryland and Israeli businesses and research institutions.

  • In 2005, foreign-controlled companies employed 102,700 workers in Maryland. Major sources of Maryland's foreign investment in 2005 included the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Switzerland.
