Ethnic Neighborhoods

The Greater Baltimore region is home to several historically ethnic neighborhoods.

  • Baltimore's Little Italy is a 12-block enclave between the Inner Harbor and Fell's Point. Italians began immigrating here in the mid 19th century. Today the neighborhood is home to numerous Italian restaurants, and hosts several ethnic festivals during the summer.
  • Greektown, in Baltimore, has been a thriving community since the 1930s.  Started as a county suburb of Highlandtown and have been called Highlandtown, East Highlandtown, Highland Hills, Bayview, and The Hill, most people know the neighborhood as Greektown.
  • Locust Point, in Baltimore, is one of the centers of Baltimore's Polish-American, Irish-American and Italian-American communities.

Many specialty grocers and restaurants that aren’t necessarily located in ethnic enclaves add flavor to the region. There are also many ethnic organizations in the area.
