Now the largest jobs center in the Baltimore metropolitan area and second in the state, Baltimore County enjoys a diverse and strong economy and an attractive standard of living. Home to 21,000 businesses, Baltimore County's business community is balanced across industry sectors with international headquarters for McCormick & Company and Black & Decker and major operations for GM Powertrain, T. Rowe Price, Lockheed Martin, BD Diagnostic Systems, AAI Corporation, Procter & Gamble, Shire Pharmaceuticals, Maryland Steel, and Bank of America. Baltimore County is also home to the Federal headquarters of the U.S. Social Security Administration and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
County business locations include Baltimore Crossroads@95 and Windlass Run Business Park, offering over 1,000 development-ready acres, one of the largest tracts of land zoned for business on I-95. Other business environments vary from bwtech@UMBC, a research and technology park, to industrial properties in Dundalk/Sparrows Point, with rail, interstate and deepwater port access. The Timonium/Hunt Valley corridor offers a thriving technology community only minutes from interstates and light rail to downtown and BWI Airport, and one of the largest concentrations of interactive technology companies on the East Coast. The White Marsh Business Community enjoys access to I-95, with corporate, flex, and warehouse/distribution facilities. Corporate campus settings in Owings Mills link to downtown Baltimore and Johns Hopkins and UM Baltimore medical campuses via I-795 and the Metro subway. The new Owings Mills Town Center project is under construction, featuring transit-oriented development at its best.
