Howard County
Harford County is part of the Baltimore metropolitan area, strategically located on I-95 in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic United States. Harford County offers immediate proximity to premier research institutions such as the U.S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground, Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland. Coupled with a highly skilled regional workforce of more than 1.6 million, Harford County provides the ultimate setting for a vast array of companies and industry sectors. These advantages, an excellent quality of life, business-friendly environment and low cost of living make Harford County one of the most desirable business locations on the East Coast.
Harford County's 5,510 businesses employ 65,200 workers; an estimated 106 of these businesses have 100 or more workers. The U.S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) is the major county employer and a technology resource for the region. As a result of the recent military Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, APG is projected to have a net gain of 8,200 positions to its workforce. Major private sector employers in the county include Battelle, CACI, Clorox Products Manufacturing, Custom Direct, Computer Sciences Corporation, Cytec Engineered Materials, EAI (a subsidiary of SAIC), EG&G/Lear Siegler, EPS, Frito-Lay, Independent Can, MITRE Corporation, Northrop Grumman, Nutramax Laboratories, Rite Aid, SafeNet, SAIC, Saks Fifth Avenue, Smiths Detection, SURVICE Engineering, and Upper Chesapeake Health.
