#4 in VC Deals: Washington-Baltimore ranked 4th for the total number of venture capital deals in biotechnology in the five year period from 2002 to 2006, behind only San Francisco, Boston and San Diego.
#6 in Biotechnology Funding: Washington-Baltimore ranked 6th for venture funding in biotechnology among US regions, with almost $991 million invested from 2002 to 2006. The top regions were San Francisco, Boston and San Diego.
#1 in VC Growth: Washington-Baltimore ranked first for growth in venture capital investment (134.3 percent) and deals (121.5 percent) among top markets for biotechnology when comparing the past five years (2002 to 2006) against the previous five (1997 to 2001).
