Maryland Carey Law Receives $5M Gift to Establish Chacón Center for Immigrant Justice

The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law located in Baltimore City has received a $5M gift from two prominent biotech entrepreneurs to develop the Chacón Center for Immigrant Justice. Marco Chacón, born in Costa Rica, is founder and former CEO and Debbie Chacón is former VP of Paragon Bioservices, Inc. that was acquired by Catalent Pharma Solutions LLC for $1.2 billion in 2019. Mr. Chacón is currently the founder and CEO of Irazú Bio, a drug development company headquartered in the University of Maryland BioPark in Baltimore. The new Center will focus on improving the lives of immigrants and their families while providing training for future lawyers and will feature a permanent immigration law center.
