NASA Awards $72M for New UMBC-led Earth Science Research Partnership

As the lead of a new Earth science research partnership, UMBC will receive more than $38M in funding as part of an overall $72M award from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration for the new Goddard Earth Sciences Technology and Research (GESTAR) II center. Morgan State University serves as the primary partner in the national consortium that also includes Northrop Grumman Corporation. The GESTAR II will support scientific and education opportunities for over 120 researchers, creating opportunities for breakthroughs in earth and atmospheric science research. “This award is a massive win for UMBC, for the University System, and—with Morgan State as a key partner—for Maryland as a whole,” said Jay Perman, Chancellor of the University System of Maryland and EAGB board member. Willie May, VP of Morgan State, adds, “Morgan brings more than a decade of experience working with NASA, and we look forward to partnering with UMBC and other collaborators in GESTAR II to produce cutting-edge, world-class Earth science in support of our national space program.”
